News flash: New secure truck park soon to open in France
We are entering the final phase of construction and, around 13 May, we shall be able to open the new secure truck park of Truck Etape, near Valenciennes' "A2 Exit 20 La Sentinelle". We will then test this facility “live” by hosting our first customers, and we will have our inauguration on 12 June, exactly one year after the site’s official first tree planting. See further information at www.trucketape.com.

Executive summary: The Survey has targeted one of the specific concerns stemming from criminal activities: attacks on international drivers involving, almost systematically, the theft of the cargo, the vehicle and the driver’s personal belongings. The results of the survey presented in this report aim to increase understanding of the problem, clarify attack characteristics and dimensions, quantify the economic and other losses engendered by attacks and identify the best possible tools and means to protect international drivers’ life and health as well as their vehicles and the cargo in the load compartments.

(a thanks to Glynis Crook, for her wise and rigorous editorial assistance)
This newsletter is intended for all participants and interested parties of the SETPOS project. SETPOS stands for Secured European Truck Parking Operational Services and became possible thanks to a grant by the European Commission, Directorate General for Transport and Energy (DG TREN).
The SETPOS project involves a widespread alliance of partners across Europe who are already active in improving freight safety and security. SETPOS' objective is to set the standard, and to demonstrate this through 5 sites, hence facilitating the development of a reliable network of secure parking sites across the European Union. Through SETPOS, a Europe-wide truck parking information, guidance and reservation system is being developed.
